Remembrance Sunday 2026 is 8 November, but the council's page still shows last year's service. Here is the 2025 running order and the Bridge Foot closures.

Remembrance Sunday 2026 is Sunday 8 November. That is the Sunday nearest to Armistice Day, which falls on Wednesday 11 November this year.

Warrington Borough Council has not yet published anything about the 2026 service. Its page at warrington.gov.uk/remembrancesunday still describes last year’s event, opening “the annual event honouring those who have fallen in war is taking place at the cenotaph, Bridge Foot on Sunday 9 November 2025”. The page carries a date stamp of 5 November 2025, which is four days before that service.

That timing matters if you are planning. The council published its Remembrance details less than a week ahead last year, and the town centre Christmas lights release came with nine days’ notice. Expect the 2026 running order in the first days of November, not in September.

The shape of the morning

Everything in this section is the 2025 schedule as the council published it. The ceremony has run to broadly this pattern for years, so treat it as the likely shape of 8 November 2026 rather than as confirmed timings.

The council’s instruction to the public was specific: “please access and exit the cenotaph via the marked crossing points by 10.45am, prior to the civic party taking their positions at the cenotaph”. The Mayor of Warrington attends alongside war veterans, religious leaders and members of the armed forces.

The 2025 parade route ran from the Town Hall via Springfield Street, Palmyra Square South, Suez Street, Ryland Street and Bridge Street. Note that the council’s own page spells that street “Ryland Street” in the route and “Rylands Street” in the closure list below. Rylands Street is the correct name.

Road closures and the retail park trap

Delays around Bridge Foot are the point most people get caught by. In 2025 the council closed roads in two bands, co-ordinated with Cheshire Constabulary:

  • 8am to 12 noon: town centre closures including the full closure of Bridge Foot, with no access to Riverside Retail Park, Wharf Industrial Estate or Tanning Court Industrial Estate.
  • 9am to 12 noon: the streets around Queen’s Gardens, namely Sankey Street, Legh Street (from the junction of Bath Street to Sankey Street), Springfield Street, Palmyra Square South, Palmyra Square North, Bold Street, Suez Street, Rylands Street and Barbauld Street.

Losing Riverside Retail Park for a whole Sunday morning is the detail worth planning around. If you were intending to shop there before noon, do not.

Warrington’s Own Buses gave a slightly wider window in its own notice, which is dated Friday 10 November 2023 and so covers that year: it said the roads would be shut 08:00 to 13:00, an hour longer than the council’s 2025 order. It also listed Market Gate, Warrington Bridge and Warrington New Bridge (lane closures only), Knutsford Road and Mersey Street among the roads affected.

Parking

In 2025 the council opened Time Square multi-storey car park all day, free of charge, for people attending. It has done this before, but it is announced each year rather than guaranteed, so check the council page once the 2026 notice goes up.

Buses

From the 2023 Warrington’s Own Buses notice, the diversions during the closure were:

  • CAT5 and CAT6: via Midland Way to Crosfield Street, Slutchers Lane, then back to Brian Bevan Island.
  • Service 1: via Midland Way, Crosfield Street, Slutchers Lane, Gainsborough Road and Loushers Lane, missing stops between Legh Street and Wash Lane.
  • Service 2: the reverse, via Wash Lane, Loushers Lane, Gainsborough Road and Slutchers Lane, missing stops between Wash Lane and Academy Way.
  • Services 25 and 28A: via Scotland Road and Dial Street, missing Legh Street to Academy Way.
  • Services 14, 16, 17 and 32: via Midland Way to Priestley Street.

Warrington’s Own Buses has not published a 2026 version. It usually posts one in the week before.

The village parades

Bridge Foot is not the only service in the borough. The same bus notice listed five separate parades with their own rolling closures. These are 2023 windows, listed here because the parades and their routes repeat year to year, and because they tell you which village roads to avoid on the Sunday morning.

  • Penketh and Sankey, 09:00 to 13:00: Honiton Way, Greystone Road, Heath Road, St Mary’s Road, Liverpool Road, The Dale.
  • Culcheth, 10:00 to 13:00: Wigshaw Lane, Common Lane, Warrington Road, Church Lane.
  • Grappenhall, 09:30 to 12:00: Stockport Road, Stanton Road, All Saints Drive, Bell Lane, Lymm Road, plus Thelwall New Road, which the notice records only as “Thelwall New”.
  • Lymm, 09:30 to 12:00: Davies Way, Brookfield Road, Church Road.
  • Stockton Heath, 10:30 to 11:30: London Road, Ellesmere Road.

Stockton Heath’s is the shortest window of the five, and Penketh and Sankey’s is the longest at four hours.
